HIS BACKGROUND
Mr. Simkin graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana in 1968, receiving a Bachelor’s of Science Degree with majors in chemistry and mathematics. After a period of military service, he became involved with a family owned business until 1981. During that period, in 1975, he completed the Masters in Business Administration Degree from Loyola University in Chicago and, in 1981, earned a Certificate in Accounting from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. In May 1981, he became a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of Illinois. Since that time, he has worked in the field of public accounting, providing financial reporting, tax and consulting services. Shortly after entering the profession he became a partner in the firm Ebner, Horwitz & Simkin, Ltd. Through a series of successions, he became president and sole owner of Simkin & Associates, Ltd. In October, 2007 Simkin & Associates, Ltd. and Echales, Benjamin & Company, LLP merged to form Echales, Benjamin & Simkin, LLP. He has been married since 1969 and has three adult children and four grandchildren.
HIS EXPERTISE
Mr. Simkin’s areas of expertise include income tax, trust and estate tax, financial and retirement planning, investments and insurance. He has served as a trustee and executor for several individuals. His clients are primarily closely-held businesses, professionals and business owners coming from diverse backgrounds – manufacturing, retail sales, security brokers, authors, inventors, and the professions of medicine, law, scientific research, and engineering. He is a member in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Illinois Certified Public Accounting Society and has earned the designation of Certified Specialist in Estate Planning.
